Richard Newbold, 76, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011, at his residence. Born in Oblong, Illinois on March 3, 1935, he was the son of Clarence Newbold and Vesta (Correll) Newbold Ruddell. He was a graduate of Oblong High School Class of 1953. He served with the U. S. Army, where he served in Africa. Richard worked construction as a boilermaker for several years; later owned Park Mart in Robinson and Oblong for several years; and Marathon Tank Service – servicing the Oblong area farmers. He was a member of the Dogwood Prairie United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher for many years; past Scout Master & Scout Leader for several years; served on the Crawford County Board for 10 years. He and his family enjoyed skating at the area roller skating rink for many years.
On June 1, 1972, Richard married Beverly (Hawkins) Ruddell, who survives. Also surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, R. D. & Kristy Newbold; two daughters and son-in-law, Cyndi & Brian Eubank and Iris Gibler; three step-sons, Garry & Donna Ruddell, Terry & Vickie Ruddell and Randy & Debra Ruddell; thirteen grandchildren, John Paul Newbold, Dasha Newbold, Michael Gibler, Todd Gibler, Seirra (Eubank) Forristall, Logan Eubank, Jason Ruddell, Brittney (Ruddell) Bennett, Laurin Ruddell, Lyndee Ruddell, Brent Ruddell, Brandon Ruddell and Brad Ruddell; two great-grandchildren, Emma Forristall and Krysta Ann Ruddell; a sister-in-law, Nancy Newbold; a brother-in-law, Keith & Betty Jane Sheridan.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ray Ruddell; a brother, Harlan Newbold; a sister-in-law, Ramona Sheridan and a granddaughter, Chloe Ann Newbold.
Rev. David Ducommon will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery.
